Introduction. A Coal Gasification Pilot Plant had a wastewater effluent with a high loading of ultra-fine particulates. Evangelista's objective was to produce clean, recyclable water from this wastewater.
Microfiltration. Evangelista performed pilot-scale tests using microfiltration, a semi-permeable membrane process, on the black-colored coal gasification wastewater. The microfiltration tests produced a visually clear permeate or filtrate, while the retentate was significantly darkened by concentrated particulates. The resulting samples were returned to the Synfuels Corporation for analysis. No publication or report is available.
