Introduction. Toxic soil inside a capped slurry wall accumulated noxious aqueous leachate that leaked into the environment. The objective was to explore several on-site innovative treatment technologies as an alternative to the transportation and off-site treatment of leachate.
Enhanced Oxidation. Evangelista co-operated a pilot-scale enhanced oxidation system that harnessed the synergistic oxidizing power of UV light, ozone, hydrogen peroxide and catalyst to destroy pollutants in the leachate. The results demonstrated that enhanced oxidation was very successful in removing a wide range of chemicals of concern from a deadly landfill leachate.
