Introduction. Chemical Commodities, Inc., located in a residential neighborhood, had soil and runaway groundwater containing toxic volatile organic compounds (VOCs).
Interceptor Trench. Sampled and analyzed soil and groundwater that found contamination migrating away from the site towards an active, adjacent rail line. To contain and capture the renegade groundwater, Evangelista designed a deep, narrow Interceptor Trench, which was cut into soil and the underlying harder shale between the migrating contamination and the rail line. Contaminants flowed into the Trench and were pumped to the surface for storage and disposal.
