Course Description. This course is an overview of hazardous waste regulations with an emphasis on: waste identification, generator compliance, permitting, and transportation. The course addresses the Superfund site evaluation and cleanup process, including: preliminary site assessment, remedial investigation, feasibility study, treatability study, technology selection, and site remediation process. The laboratory portion illustrates chemical waste compatibility, waste handing, analysis of regulations, and remedial technology application. Formerly called Hazardous Waste Management Applications.

Course Objectives. Upon successful completion of this course the student will be able to:
- Identify regulations concerning hazardous waste management, air and water discharges, site mitigation and remediation
- Know from which laws the regulations were promulgated
- Distinguish the regulatory jurisdiction between regulatory agencies
- Demonstrate methods for the identification of solid wastes, hazardous wastes, and hazardous materials
- Understand waste compatibility
- Recommend proper procedures used to transport, store, handle, track, and dispose hazardous wastes
- Describe the process of site mitigation
- Understand the scientific and engineering fundamentals of site remediation technologies and their applications
